Possible Concepts..

For this project, I want to talk about transgender issues. What influences made them to become transgender, the cons and pros for being a transgender, is transgender psychiatrically curable? etc... still need to think about more.

  1. Just a thought.

    "is transgender psychiatrically curable?"

Do you think that being transgendered is a psychiatric illness?

  2. I think that is very sensitive part to answer... Actually I don't have enough information on transgender issue, so I'm not so sure about being a transgendered is a psychiatric illness or not. However, I think it would bring different consequences if transgenders have treated psychiatrically before they decided go on a surgery.
    Just a little thought...

  3. A transitioning person cannot get their surgery without seeking psychiatric counseling.

  4. Oh, that's surprising, I thought they just go on a surgery without any psychiatric treatments..
then the psychiatric counseling would not be that helpful for them to keep their biological sex..

  5. I read through your concept rather quickly at first and i thought you said "is transgender PHYSICALLY curable?" People who want to undergo surgery to change their biological sex have to go through massive amounts of counseling, sometimes over the span of years, because (obviously) the changes cannot be reversed. Since they struggle all of their lives with the feeling that they are a different sex than their body, are they then cured from their physical transformation?

This is a really touchy subject, and clearly we have some emotional responses for you already. Perhaps your project can go in that direction too? Why do some people think that being transgender means that you are psychiatrically ill? In my experience many people have very strong feelings on this issue whether or not they even know a transgender person. It would be interesting to understand why and how people feel like they can come up with their own conclusions without knowing much about the subject at all.
